Amon Tobin’s Bricolage has some pretty cool ethereal beats to it, and incorporates elements of jazz, trip-hop, drum ‘n bass and general electronica. Some might argue that it’s better for background noise. That may be true but I still like it. Occasionally some tracks feel a little repetetive, but other than that it’s a solid electronica album and good for relaxing.

Here is the track “Easy Muffin” off this album (I don’t know why the title isn’t showing up in the player today).

» Download

Edit: I just realized, the download that I posted contains the album in iTunes AAC (.m4a) format (at 128kbps, btdubs.) This isn’t a “problem” per se; it just means you can only listen to it in iTunes/on your iPod or whatever inferior media player can handle the format. If I get around to it I’ll convert them to MP3 and re-post, but if not – well, it’s 2009, and you still using Windows Media Player is just plain retarded on your part.

As promised, I am aiding in the piracy of music by giving you some free tunes via a mixtape. Assuming I don’t get lazy I’m expecting to this to be a somewhat occasional feature here at PSAA and I hope that Shawn-John will participate by uploading his own mixtapes as well in the future. I’m going to set the precedent now of having each mixtape henceforth be kept to fifteen tracks – no more, no less – and somewhat diverse (alternatively, perhaps kept with a theme.) The tracks you’ll find in the link below won’t come in any discernable order; here’s the one that I reccommend for playlist purposes:

Nine Inch Nails – Discipline

The Mars Volta – Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of)

Jane’s Addiction – Been Caught Stealing

Gorillaz – Tomorrow Comes Today

R. Kelly – Real Talk

Kanye West – Flashing Lights

Mos Def – Life in Marvelous Times

Street Sweeper – Clap for the Killers

Saul Williams – WTF!

Radiohead – 15 Step

Lupe Fiasco – Instrumental

TV On The Radio – Satellite

A Perfect Circle – Vanishing

The Good, The Bad and The Queen – Northern Whale

Arctic Monkeys – Who The Fuck Are Arctic Monkeys?

I love forcing music upon people so I am doing it now. This is one of the best hip hop albums you will ever hear. I give you Mos Def’s Black on Both Sides.

Download.

EDIT: Shawn is giving me shit because, despite the fact that we both agree this is an excellent record, it is not current and I should be posting current things. Boo.

SHAWN EDIT: Shawn merely pointed out that such a dated album would serve better in a list for any readers looking for good hip-hop. Shawn would also point out that Patrick neglected to mention that Mos Def has since gone crap when it comes to records and hasn’t released decent CD post Black on Both Sides.

PATRICK EDIT (WAY LATER): This isn’t 100% true but somewhat accurate. Mos’s next record after this one, The New Danger, was kinda cool but spotty. Definitely wasn’t crap though; just nowhere near on par with BoBS
