The Amazing Land of Sheetz

This evening began typical enough. I got home after some delicious homemade spaghetti at my grandparents house and Mr. Dempsey phoned me. Not uncommon, we tend to hang out taco bell in hand and take in some recently downloaded digital goodness, or take in one of the only late night dwellings still open in Raleigh…Wal-Mart. Last week, in the fever of boredom, James and I randomly bought air-soft guns and glow in the dark pellets. With my 100,000,000,000 lumen flashlight to charge the radium embedded spheres made for a fun time that night. This night seemed to begin on a similar journey, that is until Mr. Dempsey decided he wanted some coffee at 11pm. This gave our duo something to do. Instead of merely finding a 24 hour McCafe or any “ol’ fill’n station”,

We decided to find a Sheetz!

Talking ancient stone statues, gold, and temples…

A dear friend of mine just reminded me of one of the best childhood shows that we both shared. Before Survivor or the other over budget under written show The Amazing Race ever where thought of there was is jewel. “Legends of the Hidden Temple” was complete with a sage statue named Olmec who explained the secrets within each temple and the cryptic clues of the ruins. Teams like the silver snakes and the purple parrots each show involved challenges that these new shows only glean from such as walking over planks in boiling smoke covered moats. I would shout at my TV as the last team puts together the silver monkey. Like a real life video game, team members collect life pendents for use in the final stage. Finding episodes of “Legends of the Hidden Temple” on the internetz is why I love google so. The ABSOLUTE BEST PART IS ENTERING OLMEC’S TEMPLE!!! Enjoy!

A few notes for today:

  • Lost was awesome, as usual. As fucking usual. And also ended with quite the “Holy shit!” moment.
  • I realized, through message board threads, that some NIN fans are gonna get to the Charlotte venue even earlier than I will. This is not acceptable.
  • Super Dave did some funny stuff tonight. Where do I begin? Perhaps when he thought the song “Personal Jesus” went “Personal Jesus/Suck my cock.” It’s worth noting, he has never heard the song.
  • I should be laying out drums for the next track on the album, which if all goes well we’ll be recording tomorrow night. Fuck all.
  • I’ve decided that in addition to aiding in the piracy of albums here on Patrick and Shawn Are Awesome, I (we?) am going to start compiling the occasional mixtape. The first of these will probably be posted tomorrow assuming I am not too busy and have the time to decide what should be on it. It will be VERY eclectic. Some of it you will be extremely familiar with. Some of it you may or may not be. Shawn will automatically dismiss it as “music for ‘people like me’ “(something that pisses me off more than most things in the world). Shawn will, as it happens, be wrong.
  • I have also elected to slit Shawn’s throat the next time he makes a “people like me” comment.
  • Failing that, I may just lock him out of the site for a week.
  • I will have to watch House next week because the might Mos Def (whose album I posted for you the other day – go find it; I’m too lazy to link you to it) will be on the show playing the patient. Apparently this is the first episode told almost entirely through the patient’s eyes and Mos’ new song, which actually is pretty hot, will feature.
  • That song will probably wind up in the first mixtape, hmmm?

Things that were awesome about today

1. Put the finishing touches on the song we’ve been working on recently. Spent a mere 20 minutes arranging a whole new introduction for it (which will actually be placed at the end of the previous track and lead abruptly into the song…cool shit.)

In other “my music”-related news, I still haven’t actually gotten to see but have been given a description of the cover that a friend of mine is doing for the record and it sounds like it’s gonna be fucking cool. I don’t need the artwork right away, so I told him not to rush his already busy schedule with it, but at the same time I’m really anxious and excited to see what it looks like. I have a great feeling about it. I probably won’t unveil it until after the record has been submitted to the various online music stores (iTunes, Amazon, RealPlayer Rhapsody, etc.) that it will be available on.

2. Bought tickets for Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction. Spent a little over $100 on my ticket, but I think it will be well worth it. I bought pre-sale, meaning I’ll be let in early by NIN’s own staff and probably get to be right on the rail.

Davy Crockett

Davy Crockett is most known for his stand and death at the Alamo against Hertz and Enterprise. Recently I learned that Mr. Crockett’s name was lent to another bad military idea: The tactical nuclear device M65 Recoilless Rifle aka “The Davy Crockett” It was never used in combat because of a design oversight. The Davy Crockett had a range nearly 3 miles. The problem was if the wind shifted the soldiers that launched the M65 tactical nuclear warhead, would be be within the nuclear fall-out. Luckily it was only tested once, and the military big wigs said…oops. In the video above, look out for a famous politician.

Seth’s Giggity Goo (Hulu Ad)

I love that Hulu is taking out ads on TV. They are clever, this one is with Family Guy creator Seth Macfarlane.

Happy St. Me Day!

Little known fact: There are two St. Patricks. One of them is me, and I am the patron saint of Awesome.

Tell all your friends, and drink to my honor tonight.

House MD just jumped the shark!

Literally.

In the opening snippet of the most resent House, our favorite Dr. Asshole builds a Rube Goldberg race track out of medical supplies. The conclusion of the track is a shark in a bed pan. Funny.

Caught up with House at Hulu.
